The 12 Beer Reviews of Christmas #3: Spinnakers Nut Brown Ale

20161227_232226.jpgOn the third day of Christmas, my true love sent to me…

From the label:

Brewed with the finest malted barley, imported hops and Spinnakers’ own deep well aquifer pure mineral water, Spinnakers Nut Brown Ale exhibits a refreshing light body with hints of delicate nutty flavours. Serve slightly chilled.

Stats: ABV:6.5%; IBU 16

Tasting notes:

This beer pours out a… erm… cloudy nut brown colour with a sliver of head—in fact I had to pour it vigerously from 6 inches above the glass to create one. The head dissipated quickly and didn’t even leave a hint of lace.

The nose is hazenut, caramel malt, and molasses, with no hint of hop bitterness. The palate was similar with bready/caramel malt and undefined nuttiness. The mouthfeel is light-bodied and thin, with little carbonation, and a slightly sweet finish.

I’m English, so I know that brown ales are lighter malty affairs, so that came as no surprise. The nuttiness was nice, but overall this was just too thin.

Also, a little sour again. Maybe they need to clean their lines better!
