Category 12 Releases Brett IPA and New Batch of Induction Dubbel

20170127_230521.jpgCategory 12 in Saanichton BC has just released a brand new beer, the third in their Elemental series.

Called simply Brett IPA, this IPA was refermented with Brettanomyces Bruxellensis Trois Vrai in locally procured red wine barrels. Ample time in barrels has allowed Brett. to create a deliciously funky and complex IPA with aromatic notes of tropical fruit.

I grabbed a bottle on the day of release and I am drinking it as I write. I have to say that it is absolutely wonderful, with a palate of tropical fruit, light hoppiness, a touch of woodiness, and some barnyard funk.

The beer is available now (bottles only) from the C12 tasting room and is being shipped out to select private liquor store this week. This one is very limited, so grab it while you can.

Stats:

ABV: 6.8%; IBU: 64; OG: 1.064; SRM: 9; Vol: 650 mL

Not content with just releasing a fantastic new beer, this week also sees the re-release of their Induction dubbel. Originally released in 2016, this Belgian-inspired beer is brewed with specialty malts and hand-crafted dark candi syrup, to create a rich dark amber brew with notes of figs, raisins, dates, brown sugar, and a touch of hops in the finish

I picked up a glass in the tasting room today and think it’s even better than last year’s. It’s one of the best North American takes on a dubbel that I have tried. Right up there with Dageraad’s Brune!

The beer is available now from the C12 tasting room and is being shipped out to select private liquor store this week.

Stats:

ABV: 7.5%; IBU: 19; OG: 1.075; SRM: 17; Vol: 650 mL
