Just over a year since it was first released, Phillips Brewing has released a second batch of the first release from their Sour Note series: Thorny Horn.
It’s nice to see Phillips re-releasing so many of their popular seasonal releases, as they only used to do one batch and it was gone, which could be frustrating. Hopefully they brew up a new batch of Sax in the Dark next, which is my favourite from the Sour Note series.
Here’s how they describe it:
This tasty sour is born as a medium bodied brown ale and fermented with a saison yeast. Following this, it is infused with raspberries and augmented with a lively Lactobacillus bacteria, the magical secret to sour. Like all of our special sour note releases, this brew features our own ‘lacto’ strain that was cultured in-house from our spent grain.
A tangy berry nose leads to a rich, slightly sharp raspberry tartness through the body that finishes puckeringly dry. This sour brew is proof that sometimes the best notes fall outside of traditional scales.
Bottles will be available for a limited time from private craft-focused liquor and there will be a special tasting of the beer at the brewery from 4–6 p.m. on Thursday March 9th.
