Moon Under Water brewpub has announced their new Ancient Ale series of barrel-aged beers.
These hop-free, barrel-fermented ales will showcase ancient brews from different times and various places around the world.
First up is Old Ale 2017. This Gaelic ale, circa 1700, was made with peated and smoked malts and barrel aged for a year before being blended with fresh Scottish ale.
I got a chance to try the beer at the All About the Wood event at VBW 2017 and it was absolutely fantastic. The peat and smoke really came through and added an extra dimension to the beer.
Bottle are available now at Moon Under water and begin appearing in select liquor stores later this week.
