BC Craft Beer Events for the Week of Apr 24–30

This week sees the kick-off of BC cider week, so I’ve featured a number of those events here, as craft is still craft!

If you are look for beer events, there are a number of brewmaster dinners going on, as well as several tastings, including one hosted by Adem Tepedelen, writer of Brewtal Truth Guide to Extreme Beers.

Oh, and don’t forget the 2017 Hop Circuit open house event in Yeast Van.

April 25: R&B Brewmaster’s Dinner

April 26: Beer Club Meeting

April 26: Cider Tap Takeover at Smiths Pub

Smith’s Pub, Victoria, BC; 17:00–1:00 PST

In addition to great craft beer, we also love delicious craft cider. So for our next tap takeover we’ll be pouring a number of ciders from three amazing local cideries.

With BC Cider Week starting on April 29, we figured we’d jump the gun and whet our whistles a few days before featuring the following fermenters of apples:

  • Merridale from Cobble Hill
  • Sea Cider from Saanich
  • Tod Creek from Prospect Lake

We’ll let you know what’s pouring closer to the date and look forward to raising a glass with everyone.

April 26: Craft Beer 101 – Workshop

Gallery Bistro, Port Moody, BC; 19:00–20:30 PST; $45

Join local beer expert, Paul Pyne, for an interactive session on beer, the ingredients, and styles of the World’s most beloved alcoholic beverage.  Talk and taste through some common styles brewed by local companies, and pick the brain of a Certified Cicerone® in a small, intimate setting.

Craft brews being featured include (3 ales and 3 lagers): Czech Pilsner, Maren, Schwarzbier, English Pale, IPA and Oatmeal Stout.

April 27: SAVE the BEER Farms! Tap Takeover at The White Whale

The White Whale, Courtney, BC; 15:00–23:00 PST

We’re tapping 10+ Unique Persephone brews @ The White Whale in Courtenay!

Persephone Brewing Company is in danger of losing the ability to continue to brew on our land! We’ll be on hand to discuss what’s at stake for farm-based breweries in the province under the Agricultural Land Commission Act’s current regulations.

++We’ll have our petition to the Minister of Agriculture on hand for those who’ve yet to sign!++

Come out and show your support for locally grown hops, craft beer, sustainable agriculture, and community-focused small business’ in BC!

April 27: Kick off BC Cider Week with Sea Cider; $20

Vessel Liquor, Victoria, BC; 18:30–20:00 PST

Get a jump start on BC Cider week. Kristen Jordan, owner of Sea Cider Farm and Cider House, will lead this tasting of her sparkling ciders, all made from organic fruit grown on the Saanich Peninsula. The newly released April seasonal, Birds and the Bees, will be featured.

April 29: British Columbia Cider Festival

Heritage Hall, Vancouver, BC; 14:00–18:00 PST

Be part of the first annual BC Cider Festival on April 29! This tasting event will feature 20+ cideries from BC, the Pacific Northwest, and abroad. Set in the historic Heritage Hall on Main the festival will kick off BC Cider Week in Vancouver. Meet producers and orchardists while sampling the full range of authentic craft ciders available here in BC.

BCCF is a tasting event, and attendees will be able to sample ciders from each of the producers over the course of the four hours; you won’t need to worry about tokens.

April 29: Brewer’s Dinner – SOLD OUT

Red Arrow Brewing, Duncan, BC; 19:00–22:00 PST

Red Arrow Brewing is thrilled to partner with talented local chef Peter Barger to present to you our very first Brewer’s Dinner! The evening will include a fabulous 7 course meal, offering a variety of tempting flavours and cooking styles, with each course being complemented by a small pour of one of our delicious housemade beers. Our two passionate brewers, Zach and Chris, will be dining alongside you to help guide your tastebuds and excite your senses on this indulgent (and possibly even informative!) tasting experience. Tickets are $50 and can be purchased in our Tasting Room while quantities last (must be 19+). There are only 12 seats available, so be sure to purchase your tickets right away! Please note that this price does not include gratuity or any extra drinks that you may wish to enjoy during the meal. We will post a preview of the menu in the event photos to make sure you are fully prepared for this evening of pure delicious-ness!

April 30: Hop Circuit 2017

Yeast Van Brewing District, Vancouver, BC; 13:00–17:00 PST

Walk, skate, or bike over to East Van’s Brewing District for our second annual HOP CIRCUIT – the day when we throw open our back doors to welcome one and all for free behind-the-scene tours, and the chance to taste some really fresh beer and spirits.

Take a self-guided tour or hop on the shuttle service provided by Vancouver Brewery Tours. Maintain your strength with grub from the many food trucks scattered around the neighbourhood.

April 30: Sea Cider Social as Part of BC Cider Week 2017!

Sea Cider Farm & Ciderhouse, Victoria, BC; 14:00–17:00 PST

Sea Cider is thrilled to welcome the public to Sea Cider Farm & Ciderhouse for the 3nd annual Cider Social, as part of BC Ciderweek on April 30th 2017, from 2pm-5pm. This year, we’re back in the springtime to experience the beauty of the blossoming orchard and celebrate the cider season ahead!

Cideries from across Western Canada and the Pacific Northwest will be gathering this spring to celebrate the art of craft cider at Sea Cider. Tickets are available to the public and will include six cider tasting tickets, live entertainment from Jon Middleton Music (of Jon & Roy) and a chance to try dozens of delicious craft ciders!
