Sept 12–14: Craft Beer Business Fundamentals

Whistler Learning Centre, Whistler, BC; 08:30–3:00

Love craft beer?

Simon Fraser University will be delivering Craft Beer Business Fundamentals – part of their Craft Beer and Brewing Essentials Certificate.

The craft beer business is a very competitive one, with many entrants vying for the consumer’s palate and dollar. While the romance and appeal of the business might lie in the design of brews and the craft of brewing, what distinguishes the successful craft brewery from the also-rans is more likely to be found in healthy management, with particular attention to the management of operations, sound marketing, and the formulation and implementation of a rigorous strategy. In this course, you will learn the basics of operations management, the fundamentals of consumer behaviour and marketing, and how to formulate and implement corporate strategy.

Sept 15: Master Crafters: Battle of the Sours

The Westin Resort & Spa, Whistler, BC; 19:00–22:00

The battle of the sours is on! This annual event challenges choice breweries to bring their best brew of a select style to the table. Whose sour will reign supreme for 2017? You’ll be the judge of that.

We strip the fancy branding and name recognition and get down to the raw taste of a good brew. With only tasting notes, alcohol percentage and IBU, attendees are encouraged to try a sample (or two, or three) of each featured beer throughout the evening before casting their vote for their favourite. A DJ, passed plates and interesting stories and antidotes from our MCs help to round out the event. At the end of the night, we unveil each brew and crown the champion of the sours. This cannot-miss evening is a favourite of the 60 #WVBF2017 breweries, you won’t want to miss it!

This event sold out in 2016 and is sure to do the same this year. Tickets are just $25 and include 3 beer samples and delicious bites from the chefs at the Westin, get yours now!
