It’s a big week with Vancouver Craft Beer Week in full swing! As always, if you know of any events that I don’t have listed here, please drop me an email.

May 29: 4th Anniversary Beer Release & Open House

Main Street Brewing, Vancouver, BC; 16:00–21:00

We are turning 4 and want you to celebrate with us! At 4pm we are releasing our Belgian Quad Anniversary beer. A strong, rich Belgian Ale with continental specialty malts and Belgian dark candi sugar that give this beer its colour and sweetness. A blend of Belgian yeasts provide the aroma and flavour complexity, with notes of plum, fig, bubblegum and some alcoholic warmth. 10% ABV / 40 IBU.

Open house to meet the brewers and other craft beer lovers, live music, $5 core beers and new seasonals and small batches will be tapped in our tasting room.

Gather your crew and join us on Tuesday, May 29th from 4pm to 9pm. No cover.

Join us and our friends from Port Moody’s Brewers Row with Moody Ales, Twin Sails Brewing, Parkside Brewery & Yellow Dog Brewing for this very special collaboration dinner for Vancouver Craft Beer Week Festival 2018! May 29: Chicha and Strange Fellows Beer Dinner

Aji amarillo and sweety pepper guacamole with cassava root crisps/ fried plantains with trio of Peruvian sauces

Beer pairing: Baynard Saison cocktail (created by guest bartender Rob Scope)

Course 2: Hanami Ceviche

~Grilled locally caught and sustainable humbolt squid, scallops, crispy organic porkbelly, avocado, pickled farmer’s market cucumbers, fresh shiso, with a sea buckthorn berry and orange blossom tigre de leche marinade_

Beer pairing: Guardian White IPA

Course 3: Organic duck confit tamales

~Duck confit, sweet potato humita, pine nuts, currents, peruvian chilies with a chicha morada demi and salsa criolla~

Beer pairing: Popinjay dry hopped sour

Course 4: Bourbon and Aji Panca Chili barbeque Organic Elk Brisket

~bourbon, apricot, and aji panca chili braised barbeque organic elk brisket with a huacatay Peruvian black mint chimichurri, double smoked bacon, carmelized ramp and yucca root mash, and buttermilk rocoto chili dusted allium cepa rings~

Beer pairing: Boris Russian Imperial Stout

Course 5: Chirimoya Panna Cotta

~Peruvian custard apple, elderberry honey, candied kumquats, and puffed candied amaranth ~

May 30: Beere Brewing Tap Takeover

Smiths Pub, Victoria, BC; 17:00–01:00

It’s been a minute since we had a tap takeover, but fret not as we have some quenchable suds coming from Beere Brewing.

When your last name is Beere, you might as well make some. Since opening in North Vancouver in 2017, they have been pumping out some awesome and innovative brews. Since we can’t always get over to North Vancouver, we figured why not have them over and give all the fine Victoria folks a taste.

May 30: Beer Release Party: Blackberry Lemoncello Sour Ale Collaboration

Foamers’ Folly, Pitt Meadows, BC; 17:30–23:30

Join us on May 30th to celebrate the release of this collaboration between ourselves and Gillespie’s Fine Spirits. Pints of the Blackberry Lemoncello will be just $5 and we will be serving up some spicy BBQ food that is perfectly paired with this sour ale.

About the beer:
This collaboration between Foamers’ Folly Brewing Co. and Gillespie’s Fine Spirits Ltd. was created as a celebration of all things sour. The addition of Gillespie’s award-winning lemoncello perfectly complements this sour blackberry ale to build a bright and deliciously tart beer.

May 30: Sea-To-Skywalker • VCBW Tap Takeover

Storm Crow Alehouse, Vancouver, BC; 18:00–21:00

We’ve felt a connection through the Force to a collection of breweries along the Sea-To-Sky Highway (from Tatooine to Hoth — of course) and brought them together for a special Vancouver Craft Beer Week Festival 2018 edition Tap Takeover at the Storm Crow Alehouse.
We will be featuring 10 craft brews from Persephone Brewing CompanyGibsons TapworksBeere Brewing CompanyThe Bricker Cider CompanyThe Brewhouse (High Mountain) and Coast Mountain Brewing on tap.
We were also able to use our band of Jawas to get our hands on a keg of the VCBW 2018 Collab brew from Backcountry Brewing, Coast Mountain and Beere and will be pouring them all from our den of scum and villainy for the evening!
You better hit lightspeed and get down here before the moisture harvest or you’ll miss the fun for another two seasons!

May 30: Sour Seminar With Iain Hill

May 30: Yeast Van Tap Takeover

All 15 East Van breweries* that comprise the East Vancouver Brewery District, commonly known as Yeast Van, will be at Biercraft on Commercial Drive on May 30th, showcasing the diversity of brewing culture in our hood.

The collective’s latest collaboration – a Gin-Barrel-Aged Double Pale Ale – will also be available to try.

May 31: New Kids On The Rock Tap Takeover

St. Augustine’s, Vancouver, BC; 17:00–23:30

Please join us as 5 Vancouver Island craft breweries (a.k.a the “New Kids on The Rock”) head to Vancouver to take over the taps at St. Augustine’s.

For this awesome event, each brewery will be taking over 6 taps, for a total of 30 taps (yes, 30!!) from Vancouver Island.
Participating breweries are: Riot Brewing Co. from Chemainus, Sooke Oceanside Brewery from Sooke, Gladstone Brewing Co. from Courtenay, Mount Arrowsmith Brewing Company from Parksville, and Axe and Barrel Brewing Company from Langford.

Gather your family, friends, neighbours, and come an anytime after 5PM to enjoy a sample flight or pint(s) of these awesome Vancouver Island beers. You will also be able to meet the team from each brewery and enter prize draws for a chance to win some rad branded swag from each brewery.

May 31: Forbidden Fruit Beer Festival

Devil’s Elbow, Vancouver, BC; 17:00–21:00

Fruity + sour beer lovers, rejoice! Back for it’s 4th year, Forbidden Fruit is the apple of Vancouver Craft Beer Week’s eye!

Here’s what you can expect from the 2018 edition:

You are handed a drinking jar filled with 10 tokens.
You trade those tokens for both food and beer. (1 token = 6 oz beer, 2 tokens = 12 oz beer)
The beer is either fruity or sour, and everything in between, graciously provided by 22 of the best BC craft breweries.
Food is provided between 5:00 – 8:00 PM at stations set-up around the room. The regular menu is available to order from all night.
You hang out, drink beer, meet friends, listen to music, and eat snacks. It’s always tons of fun.

Jun 2: Penticton Beer Run

The 2nd annual Penticton Beer Run will include tastings from Firehall Brewery, Cannery Brewing, Bad Tattoo Brewing, The Tin Whistle Brewing Company, Barley Mill Brew Pub & Sports Bistro and Highway 97 Brewing Company. Net proceeds go to the Youth Outdoor Recreation Society. (Y.O.R.S) provides affordable programs for mainstream and at-risk youth in the Okanagan to participate in outdoor recreation, education and leadership activities.

Tickets (from $39 + tax) are on sale NOW for the 9th Annual VCBW Festival June 2 & 3, 2018 at the PNE Fairgrounds in Vancouver.

Vancouver Craft Beer Week started in 2010 at a small venue hosting about 100 beer aficionados and 15 breweries. Over the past 9 years, it has evolved from Canada’s first-ever craft beer week into a cultural engine that showcases music, food, art, and craft beer at events across the city, from the last weekend of May to the first weekend of June every year.
