Steel & Oak Releases Simple Things Pilsner

Steel & Oak Brewing in New Westminster BC has announced their latest limited canned release: Simple Things.

Simple Things is a German-style Pilsner made with Weyermann Barke Pilsner malt and a selection of Noble hops. It pours a golden hue with a fluffy white head. The body is crisp, clean, and assertive, with notes of honey, graham cracker, biscuit, and a refreshing and lengthy bitterness.

Simple Things is available on draft, for growler fills, and in cans at the Steel & Oak tasting room right now. Cans will begin shipping to select liquor stores this week, with a few flats shipping to Vancouver Island.

Persephone Releases 2017 Version of Keller Pilsner

Persephone Brewing in Gibsons BC has announced the release of a fresh batch of their seasonal Keller Pilsner.

Brewed with 1.5 pounds per barrel of Czech Saaz hops and Gambrinus Pilsner malt, Keller Pilsner is a crisp, refreshing, unfiltered lager with a bright, floral hop aroma. Very light in colour and body. The slight bready malt flavour is balanced with a firm bitterness and spicy flavour from a massive amount of Czech Saaz hops.

It should start appearing on the shelves of selct liquor stores in BC over the next week.

OG: 1.046 ; IBU: 33; ABV 5.0%


Driftwood Releases Arcus Pilsner

Driftwood Brewery in Victoria BC has announced the release of their new Arcus pilsner.

Arctus is a North German-style Pilsner with a pronounced classic Tettnanger hop profile present in aroma and finish. Extended lagering is said to meld the delicate Canadian malt base and noble hop character into a refreshing palate pleasing symphony.

Arcus will begin hitting shelves in Victoria this week and Vancouver shortly after.


Hearthstone Brewing to Release Small Batch Black Pils

Hearthstone Brewing in North Vancouver has announced the release of their new Black Pils, which is the fourth release in their small batch series.

Black Pils is a dark twist on a classic Czech-style pilsner. This dark black lager has an authentic Saaz-forward hop character that creates a nice bite, with dark malts that create subtle roasty notes.

The beer is available in their tasting room and select liquor stores now.

Bomber Brewing to Release Apex Double Pilsner

Made with 100% Pilsner malt, this giant of a lager comes in at a hefty 6.8% but is somehow twice as drinkable as your typical Pilsner. Brewed with a blend of traditional Noble hops and new world aromatics this feels more like an IPA than a traditional German lager. The huge nose on thismonster Double Pilsner comes from the double dry-hopping using a blend of Citra, Simcoe, Ella, and Enigma hops. This is the epitome of a crisp and aromatic Pilsner.

About Apex Double Pilsner:

  • Appearance: Golden yellow, firm white head
  • Aroma: Crisp, bready Pilsner malts, leafy citrus notes
  • Flavour: Hop forward but balanced with grass, biscuit, and honey flavours
  • Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied with medium carbonation, dry finish
  • ABV = 6.8%
  • Original Gravity = 1.066
  • Bitterness = 48 IBU
  • Colour = 3.6 SRM
